Who Are Ya — the daily football wordle

What is Who Are Ya?

Who Are Ya is a free daily football wordle: one mystery footballer, unlimited guesses, the same puzzle for everyone in the world, resetting at 00:00 UTC.

Why play it

  • Free, no download and no sign-up — it runs in your browser on phone or desktop.
  • One puzzle a day, refreshed at 00:00 UTC, identical for every player worldwide.
  • 533 real footballers from the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1.
  • A profile panel does the deduction for you, narrowing age, shirt number and height as you guess.
  • Build a streak — miss a day and it resets to zero.

How to play

  1. Type any footballer's name. The search ignores accents, so "Vinicius" finds Vinícius Júnior.
  2. Read the colours: green means that attribute matches exactly, amber means you are close, grey means no match.
  3. Amber has a precise meaning per column — the same continent for nationality, a club the two players have both played for, or a gap of two years, three shirt numbers or three centimetres.
  4. Arrows ▲▼ on the number columns tell you whether the answer is higher or lower than your guess.
  5. Watch the player profile panel: it turns every clue into a shrinking range so you never have to re-read the board.
  6. Name the mystery footballer. There is no limit on guesses — the score is how few you needed.

Which players can come up

The answer is always a current player from one of Europe's five biggest leagues, filtered so you only meet footballers you have a fair chance of knowing.

  • Premier League — 211 players
  • LaLiga — 97 players
  • Bundesliga — 91 players
  • Serie A — 75 players
  • Ligue 1 — 59 players

Today's puzzle and yesterday's answer

A new footballer is picked at midnight UTC and stays the same until the next one. Yesterday's answer is revealed at the bottom of the page once the day rolls over, along with a countdown to the next kick-off, so you always know how long you have to wait.

Frequently asked questions

Is Who Are Ya free?
Yes. It is free to play, there is nothing to download and no account is needed.
What time does the new player appear?
At 00:00 UTC every day. The countdown on the page uses exactly the same moment, so it never disagrees with the puzzle.
How many guesses do I get?
As many as you need. There is no guess limit and no way to lose, so the score is how few guesses it took you. One extra row is given free at the start of every day as an opening clue, and it does not count towards your total.
Which players can be the answer?
Current players from the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1, filtered by how widely known they are — 543 footballers in total.
What does the amber colour mean?
It depends on the column. For nationality it means the same continent, for club it means the two players have shared a club at some point in their careers, and for age, shirt number and height it means a small gap — two years, three numbers or three centimetres.
Is this an official football game?
No. Who Are Ya is unofficial and is not endorsed by any club, league or governing body. Club badges and league marks are used only to identify the teams.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. The board, the profile panel and the search all work on a phone screen.
Is it the same puzzle for everyone?
Yes. The answer is derived from the date in UTC, so every player in the world gets the same footballer on the same day.
